What does it mean to be young--and in love, and wild, and free? Delving into the world of popular music video offers a unique perspective on youth identity formation, one that reads like an archetypal and highly stylized montage of youth culture that may or may not be realistic, but is or can be familiar. Investigating and re-appropriating popular ideologies, values, and themes into a series of music videos, Youth In Motion is a series of unofficial pop music videos exploring the visual pedagogic influence of the music video, as well as an ode to semiotics and the youth sub-/countercultures and "aesthetic." It considers societal perceptions and oppressions of youth; youth idleness and eccentricity; and through distinct visual narratives, directed by and with a production and talent crew of late teens and early twenty-somethings, embraces the immortalization of adolescence in music video and other media, and the enduring teen spirit/teenage dreams that are meant to carry on well past adulthood.
