FSN 402 - INTERNSHIP
Students must complete 400 hours of documentable work experience during their career at Ryerson. These hours are comprised of internship opportunities that allow students to experience work in fields that they may be interested in. If the 400 hours are not completed by the required date, you may receive a failing grade for the course, and it may affect your graduation date. Failing grades must be cleared within 12 months of the issue date; after 12 months students must reregister in FSN 402.
Students should use the provided Internship Checklist to verify that you are in good standing with your internship hours. Please ensure that any unverified internship hours are submitted and cleared with your internship coordinators as retroactive internship approvals may not be accepted after October 7, 2018.

FASHION INTERNSHIP TRACKING SYSTEM (FITS)
The School of Fashion utilizes an internal program called FITS (Fashion Internship Tracking System) to document internship hours.

A full guide for FITS is provided in the PDF here. Please keep in mind the following as you plan your internship experiences:
- Internship opportunities should be cleared with internship coordinators prior to submission on FITS
- Upon completion of an internship experience, employers will be automatically e-mailed a link to evaluate your performance. It is your responsibility to ensure that your employer completes this evaluation as your hours will not be documented until this step is complete.
Prior to beginning an internship, students must complete the Liability Waiver and WSIB forms and return them to their Internship Coordinator to place on file. A PDF with digital signature, may be submitted by email to email@example.com (Fashion Communication) or firstname.lastname@example.org (Fashion Design). Students may also submit printed and signed copies in-person during the Internship Coordinator office hours or to Aliza Markovitch in the main office.
1. LIABILITY WAIVER
While the School of Fashion makes every effort to inform students about making safe decisions pertaining to internship opportunities, students must complete this form to acknowledge that they are ultimately responsible for their safety and well-being.

2. WORKPLACE SAFETY INSURANCE BOARD (WSIB) FORMS
These forms include: 1) Declaration of Understanding and 2) Letter to Placement Employers
These forms are necessary for all unpaid internships. After October 7, 2016, WSIB forms must be submitted to your internship coordinator before you begin the internship (please note: internships that provide allowances, honoraria, reimbursement of expenses and/or stipends are still classified as unpaid internships).

Students entering work placements and internships should also be well-versed in their rights when on the job. It is important that students familiarize themselves with workplace safety regulations made available to them through the province of Ontario:

STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT
Students should be aware that Ryerson University’s Student Cody of Conduct (policy 61) applies to them while they are representing the university in an internship position.
Students should familiarize themselves with the Code of Conduct and be aware of their off-campus responsibilities.
